Highlights from ETN Global’s 22nd Annual General Meeting & Workshop

From 23–25 March 2026, the ETN Global community gathered in Malmö, Sweden, for its 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) & Workshop, co-hosted by Uniper. With over 130 participants from across the turbomachinery and energy value chain, the event was more than a meeting, it was a moment to reconnect, reflect and move forward together.

The event opened with a visit to Uniper’s Öresundsverket power plant, where participants stepped into a real example of transition in action. A 448 MW combined cycle power plant, once mothballed, is now back in operation supporting Sweden’s electricity preparedness system. On site, participants also saw first-hand how gas turbines are being adapted to run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), offering a practical route towards lower-carbon operation. ETN Global’s visit to the plant was covered in Uniper’s press release (Only in Swedish: Behovet av flexibel elproduktion ökar snabbt i hela Europa).

A year in review

During the event, members reflected on a year of growth, engagement and impact across the ETN Global community:

  • The network grew to 142 members across 21 countries, spanning Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
  • 13 new members joined, strengthening the diversity of the community.
  • Members contributed to a four technical reports, over 15 working group activities and two industry initiatives.
  • Engagement continued through events, webinars and collaborative projects, bringing the community together across multiple formats.

The message was clear: the strength of ETN Global lies in its active and engaged membership.

Shaping priorities together

Through open discussions and roundtables, members worked together to define ETN Global’s priorities for 2026, ensuring they reflect real needs across the sector. Key themes included:

  • Low-carbon fuels and hydrogen
  • CCUS integration
  • Flexible and resilient operation
  • Digitalisation and optimisation
  • System integration and hybrid solutions…and more

A key moment of this year’s event was the announcement of the new Board for the 2026–2028 term, marking the next chapter in ETN Global’s governance. We warmly congratulate all newly elected and re-elected members and thank them for their willingness to take on this important role within the network:

We would also like to thank all the out-going Board members for their support, which has helped steer the network, strengthen collaboration across our community, and drive forward important work in the energy and turbomachinery sector. A special thank you to Hege Rognø (our former Vice-President) who has retired from Equinor, and Andy Williams (our former Treasurer), who is retiring this year from Chromalloy. We wish them both a fulfilling and well-deserved next chapter.

Member of the 2025 Award

At the event we recognised outstanding contributions from across the community through the Member of the Year award. We were pleased to see three strong nominations, each reflecting commitment, expertise and active engagement:

  • Ward De Paepe (UMONS): Recognised for his leadership as Vice-Chair of the Project Board and EnergyIntegration Working Group, as well as his contributions to CCUS activities and key ETN Global deliverables.
Nils Hendrik Petersen (RWTH Aachen University): Acknowledged for his role in developing the report “Urgency and Positioning of Gas Turbines in Future Power Systems”, bringing strong analytical rigour and collaborative leadership. Christian Goßrau from the same institution also deserves a special recognition for his contributions to the report.
  • Emma Vizzino (RWE):  Recognised for her active leadership of the Young Engineers Committee and her efforts to support and engage early-career professionals across the network.

We are pleased to announce that the 2025 Member of the Year award was presented to Ward De Paepe. This recognition reflects his continued commitment, leadership and contribution to ETN Global’s activities:

We extend our sincere thanks to our co-host Uniper, our sponsors: MD&A, Mjørud, Crosstown H2R, Woodward, NEM Energy and DEKOMTE as well as our media partners ASTERIx-CAESar, HyPowerGT, FLEX4H2 and InsigH2t. And, above all, to our members for showing up, contributing and continuing the conversation. A sincere thanks goes out to all the speakers, session leads and moderators for their time, expertise and openness they brought to the discussions.
