ETN Global contributes to ACER consultation on gas network code amendments

On 18 May 2026 ETN Global has submitted a response to the public consultation launched by the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) on amendments to the gas network code on interoperability and data exchange.

As Europe’s gas market continues to evolve in line with decarbonisation objectives and the European Green Deal, ETN Global highlighted the importance of ensuring that technical rules remain aligned with operational realities across the power and industrial sectors.

In our submission, we focussed on the following:

• Application of CEN EN 16726 standard for exit classes:
  • Support for the standard baseline: We support the specified class range (46.44 MJ/m³ to 53.00 MJ/m³) defined in the CEN standard. This baseline directly aligns with the technical limits of gas turbine manufacturers and operators, which is vital for maintaining safe industrial applications.
  • The need for real-time data: compliance with standard ranges alone is not sufficient. Short-term fluctuations in gas quality can still create operational challenges for gas turbines and other industrial equipment. To manage these risks effectively, operators require access to gas quality information, in real time or within a very short time frame.
• Gas quality data improvements:
  • To properly mitigate operational risks, industrial end-users must have access to gas quality data (such as the Wobbe Index) as it happens, rather than after the fact. Real-time visibility allows operators to protect high-value assets and maintain grid stability.

As low-carbon and renewable gases become more integrated into the European energy system, ETN Global will continue to advocate for practical and technically sound regulatory frameworks that support both decarbonisation and reliable system operation.
