ETN Global publishes Decentralised Energy Systems Report

ETN would like to announce the release of “Decentralised energy systems: Towards carbon-neutral energy solutions for gas turbines”, which was published in May 2024. As part of the activities undertaken by ETN Global’s Decentralised Energy Systems Working Group, the report was written by contributors from Ansaldo Green Tech, City, London University, DLR, Norwegian Research Centre, RINA Tech, Solar Turbines, University of Genoa, University of Seville and University of Stavanger with support and inputs from the ETN Global Office.

The report delves into the critical role of Decentralised Energy Systems (DES) in achieving carbon-neutral energy solutions, particularly focusing on the integration and application of gas turbine technologies. This comprehensive report outlines the current state of DES, highlights market trends, and identifies technological challenges and opportunities.

Key Highlights:

  1. State-of-the-Art DES: DES are defined and their primary applications, market forecasts, and trends are explored, revealing a growing demand for sustainable and resilient energy solutions.
  2. Technological Challenges: The report addresses the limitations and challenges of current DES technologies, including material constraints and combustion efficiency, and emphasises the importance of advancements in these areas.
  3. Gas Turbines in DES: It examines the integration of gas turbines into DES, presenting both current applications and future potential. The discussion includes the role of small and micro gas turbines in enhancing the reliability and efficiency of energy systems.
  4. Regulatory and Policy Framework: The regulatory environment and policy recommendations necessary to support the development and deployment of DES are analysed, providing a roadmap for stakeholders to navigate the evolving landscape.
  5. Future Directions: The report concludes with insights into future directions for DES, emphasising the need for continuous innovation and collaboration to achieve carbon-neutral energy solutions.
