On 13 March 2025, ETN Global, together with five other non-profit membership based associations, co-signed a joint letter urging the European Commission to recognise cogeneration technologies in the Net-Zero Industry Delegated Act (NZIA DA). Addressed to Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné, the letter highlights the critical role of cogeneration in driving energy efficiency, decarbonisation, and industrial competitiveness.
Key highlights from the letter:
-
Cogeneration enables the efficient use of thermal energy sources such as solar thermal, geothermal, hydrogen, and bioenergy.
-
The sector directly employs over 100,000 people across Europe, supporting SMEs and local supply chains.
-
Cogeneration reduces reliance on expensive power grid expansions, enhancing energy system flexibility.
-
It is vital for key industrial sectors and district heating, aligning with the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal objectives.
-
European manufacturers are actively investing in innovative, future-proof cogeneration technologies to support energy security and decarbonisation.
The signatories call for cogeneration to be fully recognised under all relevant categories in the NZIA DA to ensure its role in Europe’s clean energy transition.
