About Brian Pitt Excellence Award

The Brian Pitt Excellence Award pays tribute to Brian Pitt, a former Rolls-Royce employee and co-founder of the Association of European Manufacturers of Industrial Gas Turbines (EuMIGT) in 1997. He also served as a supporting partner in the CE-IGT (Centres of Excellence for Industrial Gas Turbines) project between 2003-2005.

Throughout his professional journey, Brian Pitt was devoted to fortifying the European research landscape in gas turbines. His vision encompassed the establishment of a centre of excellence for gas turbine technology, aiming to boost efficiency, cut costs, and expedite innovation. Pitt was a proponent of dismantling traditional barriers among companies, start-ups, and universities by fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas. He championed open collaboration involving customers, suppliers, university researchers, and even competitors, seeking to facilitate access to high-quality ideas and drive innovation in gas turbine technology. His significant contributions played a crucial role in the formation of what we now identify as ETN Global, thanks to his close association with Christer Björkqvist, the Managing Director of ETN.

The Brian Pitt Excellence Award acknowledges individuals who exemplify Pitt’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the gas turbine field.

Must-know information about HLUM 2024:

The ETN High-Level User Meeting plays a pivotal role in identifying the needs and requirements of the user community. In recent years, the focus of these meetings has been on exploring alternative pathways and key technical gas turbine solutions essential for overcoming the energy trilemma. This year, the meeting will prioritise the barriers and challenges users have encountered while implementing their strategic roadmaps and decarbonisation strategies for selected technical pathways. It is now imperative that we collectively address and tackle these shared challenges, establish clear goals with short- and mid-term objectives, and develop strategies and timelines to achieve them.

The primary objective of this meeting is to address the technical, market, and regulatory challenges that hinder end-users in achieving their decarbonization roadmap goals. ETN Global has proactively identified key barriers within the Oil & Gas, Industry, and Utility sectors through interviews with end-users, which will form the basis of the discussion. A detailed report is available upon request (contact Antonio Escamilla at aep@etn.global).

Participants are expected to actively contribute by sharing the specific challenges they encounter, verifying the barriers outlined in the report, and identifying any additional obstacles that may have been overlooked. Dedicated sessions in the agenda will facilitate this critical exchange of experiences and insights. Following the validation of these barriers, the meeting aims to define the challenges that must be overcome and develop a list of strategic actions. These actions should leverage the strengths of our community, particularly through collaborative efforts, to address these challenges while enhancing alignment of our activities with market trends and regulatory developments.

The agenda is structured into four segments, each designed to meet the meeting’s objectives and expectations:

  1. Introduction: This informative session will set the stage for the meeting, featuring presentations from the various end-user sectors on their decarbonization pathways, along with an overview of the gas turbine market.
  2. Review and Validation: These interactive sessions will involve attendees verifying the pre-identified barriers and contributing any additional challenges. This process will be followed by the definition of the challenges we need to overcome.
  3. Progress to Date: An informative session highlighting the activities and initiatives undertaken by the ETN Global community in 2024. This overview will establish the context for proposing strategies to overcome the challenges in the final segment.
  4. Prioritization and Closing: This interactive session will focus on prioritizing the challenges that the ETN Global community should address in 2025 and defining a coherent set of actions for the upcoming year ahead.

You can access the full agenda here

The meeting should culminate in the identification and prioritization of key challenges, alongside actionable steps the ETN Global community can take to address and overcome these challenges.

The High-Level User Meeting is the initial step in a series of actions aimed at identifying the needs and requirements of the end-user community, directing the efforts of all stakeholders across the entire value chain

Please find the 2024 High-Level User Meeting report here (login required).
