Micro Gas Turbine WG
The aim of the Working Group is to bring together the whole Micro Gas Turbine (MGT) supply chain in order to explore further cooperation opportunities.
ETN Micro Gas Turbine Working Group
ETN covers all sizes of gas turbines and MGTs have been on the agenda since the early start of ETN in 2005. Due to the high focus on renewable energy in EU-funding programmes, there have not been many opportunities to develop the MGT technology further. However, in 2013 ETN succeeded to start an EU-funded project OMSoP (Optimised Microturbine Solar Power system).
Based on potential future opportunities and a positive response from the main MGT industry players, ETN created a Micro Gas Turbine Working Group (MGT WG) that connects the key stakeholders in the MGT community. The MGT WG held a general meeting in conjunction with the OMSOP mid-term dissemination meeting on 11-12 May 2015. The meeting brought together the major MGT OEMs and universities with expertise in the technology. During this meeting, it was highlighted that more cooperation across the whole MGT value chain was needed in order to develop the technology further and to align it to EU energy research programmes.
The objectives of the MGT Working Group are to:
- Explore markets opportunities and solutions;
- Implement cooperation projects in order to reduce cost and increase the technology readiness level (TRL) of individual components and systems;
- Set up conferences and workshops to facilitate cooperation in both horizontal and vertical projects;
- Pave the way for funding opportunities by highlighting the importance of the MGT technology development, contributing to the achievement of the 2030 and 2050 climate and energy targets set by the European Commission.
ETN’s MGT WG is currently holding regular teleconference meetings.
