President’s annual message to ETN Global members 2025

In their annual message, the President (Simon Balmer from Uniper) and Managing Director (Christer Björkqvist) of ETN Global reflected on 2025 achievements and highlighted the 2026 goals. Thanking all members for their support, engagement, and collaboration, 2025 was described as a truly remarkable and productive year

More specifically, key achievements in 2025 were:

  • Stronger network and collaboration: The network grew to 152 organisations from 24 countries. Active member involvement resulted in 18 Working Group initiatives and eight active projects and several technical publications. Two key industry-funded projects stood out:
    • “Assessment of pressure generation by small hydrogen clouds in GT enclosures”, defining future hydrogen safety standards.
    • High temperature GT blade alloy for additive manufacturing” advancing printable superalloys for turbine components.
  • Influencing policy: ETN Global strengthened its policy engagement through various contributions:
    • update of the European Commission’s Strategic Energy Technology Plan
    • revision of the Gas Quality Standards (EN 16726), and
    • presentation of the White Paper, “The Critical Role of Dispatchable Power Generation for a Sustainable and Secure Energy Transition”, to the European Commission and the International Energy Agency.
  • Key events: The year began with the Annual General Meeting & Workshop in Bergen, hosted by Equinor, with an impressive turnout of 27% of our user community. The event included site visits to Northern Lights Project and Technology Centre Mongstad, as well as the launch of the new CCUS Working Group, while the flagship event, the 12th International Gas Turbine Conference (IGTC 2025) in Brussels, welcomed over 200 delegates from across 25 countries, highlighting latest technology innovations, showcasing the market dynamics as well as policy perspectives through keynotes and 20 peer-reviewed technical papers.

Building on this momentum, the focus for 2026 will be on implementing priority actions from user meetings and R&D recommendations, ensuring that our activities across various Working Groups address the most pressing challenges through stronger cooperation across the value chain. Looking at major events for 2026, ETN Global members are encouraged to save the dates and make travel plans for:

  • AGM & Workshop 2026: 23-25 March, which will take place in Malmö, Sweden, hosted by Uniper
  • October Workshop 2026: 12-14 October, which will take place in Siena, Italy, hosted by Sesta Lab
